Because it’s on T.V.
lazy brain dead pace
conceits of 60′s french new wave;
(uncommon for buñuel)
subject matter over substance -
bold faced dissection of a topic becomes the substance.
a predecessor to ‘i heart huckabees’
(loathe to admit)
or less spurious ‘a life less ordinary’
buñuel’s simon of the desert (different movie):
one large chunk of ancient christianity
with a very nonsequitor contemporary ending.
milky way (this one) divides the ancient into vignettes
an overarching, seemingly inconsequential main plot
jumps back and forth between history and present day.
more focused and centered than later “freak out” 70′s films
more coherent and watchable than godard’s weekend
feels like a fairytale or an attempt at parable
not unlike rohmer’s les amours d’astree et de celadon
such disrespect for linear narrative
the random asides would feel at home in family guy
usually triggered by a sacrilegious phrase
